Twelve coaches of Poorva Express enroute Delhi from Howrah derailed near Kanpur in the wee hours on Saturday, 20 April. However no casualties have been reported.
The coaches derailed near Rooma village, which is nearly 15 kilometres away from Kanpur, at around 1 am.
According to news agency ANI, of the 12 bogies, four overturned injuring several people.
District Magistrate, Vijay Vishwas Pant, who was present at the spot, said that the rescue operations are underway, adding that buses are being arranged to transport passengers to Kanpur Central.
“Railway authorities have said that they are arranging a train for passengers from Kanpur to Delhi,” Pant said.
Meanwhile Smita Vats Sharma, ADG PR of Indian Railways has said that the main route has been impacted due to derailment but all passengers have been evacuated.
