1:58 hrs IST: That’s it.
Thank you for joining us. Until next time, it’s goodbye. Cheers!
Kuldeep Yadav (Man-of-the-Match): ‘My first tour in England, things are going very well. Perfect conditions. It felt like home conditions. The wicket was dry, good to bat on. When I bowled my first over, I felt like it would turn. It’s important if you’re bowling the wrong’un, it should be in the perfect area. We’ve got two legends (Virat and MS) and they’re very supportive.’
Virat Kohli: ‘I think just looking at all three skillsets, it gave me a lot of pleasure to watch how we did. We wanted to try out new guys, that’s why KL went 3 and I went 4. To bring the game back from their flier was all because of Kuldeep’s one over. He is a wristspinner, he’s going to be effective on any surface. When you have variations to turn it away from your or into you. his wrong’un hasn’t been easy to pick so far. I hope he can work on that skill and keep the batsmen guessing.’
Eoin Morgan: ‘Thoroughly deserved for India. The conditions were pretty good. They fought back really well. Taking three wickets in an over really set us back. Probably cost us 30-40 runs. [Kuldeep]’s a very good bowler, he’s obviously going to be a big threat. Everything seemed to happen very quickly. Something we’ll assess between games.’
1:25 hrs IST: SIX! That’s it. India complete a brilliant eight-wicket win over the hosts. Rahul remains unbeaten on 101. Can’t get any better!

00:41 hrs IST: FOUR! And that’s fifty for KL Rahul. What an innings from the 26-year-old. India well on course now. They need 71 off 66. Ali to continue.

23:59 hrs IST: Time for India’s innings. Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma to open. David Willey to bowl the first over.
23:42 hrs IST: That’s it. England have managed 159/8. At 106/2 in 13 overs, one would have thought 180 was very much gettable. But once again Indian spinners (plus Umesh Yadav) did the job. Still early days as it’s a long tour. We’ll be back in a few minutes time.
23:35 hrs IST: Excellent over from Umesh, only three runs and a wicket (of Chris Jordan). England are 151/8 after 19 overs. Bhuvi now.

23:07 hrs IST: An eventful over. Could well be the turning point of the match. Kuldeep gets the better of Bairstow and Root off successive deliveries but misses a hat-trick. Even Morgan fell cheaply. Luckily for the hosts, Buttler is still at the crease. England are 109/5 after 14 overs. Umesh is back into the attack.
23:01 hrs IST: Good spell from Chahal after going for 16 in his first over. Ends with figures of 0/34. England are 106/2 after 13 overs. Kuldeep to continue.
22:57 hrs IST: Another great over from Kuldeep, just five runs and a wicket. England are 100/2 after 12 overs. How much more can they score off the remaining 48 balls?
22:54 hrs IST: WICKET! This was coming. Hales falls to Kuldeep. Looks to sweep but misses and gets bowled behind the legs. Eoin Morgan comes to the crease. Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow still to come.
22:51 hrs IST: Costly over from Pandya, eighteen runs off it. Another fifty for Buttler. What a player! His promotion up the order has been a great move by the management. Should look to stay till the end. England are 95/1 after 11 overs. Kuldeep to continue.

22:35 hrs IST: Another good over, this time it’s from Chahal. Just six runs off it. Fifteen balls since the last boundary. England are 59/1 after 7 overs. Pandya to continue. India should look to remove Buttler soon.
22:30 hrs IST: Magnificent over from Pandya, no margin for error. India need more of these. England are 53/1 after 6 overs. Buttler 23*, Hales 0*. Chahal is back into the attack.
22:25 hrs IST: Alex Hales is the next batsman in. Hardik Pandya to bowl the last over of the Powerplay.
22:23 hrs IST: OUT! Much-needed breakthrough for the visitors. Touch short from Umesh, Roy looks to pull but gets an inside edge straight onto his stumps. He had struggled with that length throughout his innings. England are 50/1 after 5 overs.
22:18 hrs IST: FOUR! Short and wide from Chahal and Buttler punishes it through cover. On the penultimate ball, Buttler smacked a tossed up delivery over long-on for a maximum. England are 44/0 after 4 overs. Umesh is back into the attack.

22:02 hrs IST: Straightaway some shape for Bhuvi. Away swing and Roy chooses to defend it. The second delivery, which was slightly wider, was worked by the English opener towards wide third man for a double.
21:59 hrs IST: Time for live action. Roy and Buttler make their way out in the middle, and so do the Indian players. Bhuvneshwar Kumar to begin the proceedings.
21:37 hrs IST: Teams –
England: Jason Roy, Jos Buttler(wk), Alex Hales, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan(c), Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Chris Jordan, Liam Plunkett
India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(c), Suresh Raina, Lokesh Rahul, MS Dhoni(wk), Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal
21:33 hrs IST: India have won the toss and have opted to field.
21:18 hrs IST: Meanwhile, the ICC chief executive David Richardson will step down from his position once his contract expires after the 2019 World Cup, cricket’s world governing body said on Tuesday.
Richardson, who became the first person to hold the position of ICC General Manager – Cricket in 2002, was promoted to chief executive in 2012.
21:07 hrs IST: Since IPL 2018, Jos Buttler has been England’s best batsman across formats. Needles to say, he will be India’s greatest threat, albeit the likes of Roy and Alex Hales add a lot of firepower to their top-order.
21:04 hrs IST: STAT ATTACK – India have won 15 of their last 20 T20 Internationals, including the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka and the 2-1 series win in South Africa.
20:58 hrs IST: India dominated England when the Poms came to the sub-continent in 2016-17, winning eight of 10 matches across formats.
20:53 hrs IST: Hello and welcome to HT’s live coverage of the first of the three-T20s between India and England. Perfect sunny conditions at Manchester. It’s been a relatively hot summer in the UK which according to England captain Eoin Morgan will also assist spinners.
All eyes will be on England’s battle against spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. It is a litmus test to determine whether they will be heading to the 2019 Cricket World Cup at home as favourites or with doubts in mind.
The injury to Jasprit Bumrah has upset the balance of the Indian bowling attack. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav can be incisive with the new ball and Hardik Pandya is proving effective with his variations but Bumrah provides the X-factor. In his absence, Siddarth Kaul comes into the reckoning if Kohli seeks an extra pace option.
