Kolkata: While India are not many signs of declaration, Sri Lanka have claimed a couple of wickets to keep the possibility of a result alive on Day 5 of the first Test at the Eden Gardens here on Monday.

India 281/7 after 80 overs:

WICKET! Saha departs. Shanaka has his 3rd. Umpire checks for a no-ball. It looks close but Saha has to go.

India 269/6 after 74 overs:

WICKET! Ripper of a ball. Swings in and shatters the timber. R Ashwin has no answer to that Shanaka beauty. India 6 down.

While Suranga Lakmal has once again shone bright with the ball in hand, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has stayed put as India are 251/5 at lunch , leading Sri Lanka by 129 runs, on Day 5 of the first Test here at the Eden Gardens on Monday.

After overnight batsmen KL Rahul and Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja’s, R Ashwin has joined skipper Virat Kohli in the middle as India look to score at brisk pace.

India 249/5 from 66 overs:

WICKET! Ravindra Jadeja’s stay in the middle comes to an end. Dilruwan Perera strikes. Good work in the first slip by Lahiru to catch that one after it ricocheted from wicketkeeper’s gloves. India 5 down.

India 213/4 from 55 overs:

WICKETS! Two in an over for Lakmal. He is keeping India in check. First, the extra bounce and a fine diving catch by Dilruwan Perera end Cheteshwar Pujara’s innings. The on-field umpires opt for third-umpire’s input but that looks like a clean catch. India lose their second wicket in the morning. Then, a couple of balls later, he traps Ajinkya Rahane before the stumps. This match far from over folks.

WICKET! Another 50 plus score, another hundred missed. KL Rahul departs for 79. Suranga Lakmal has the Indian opener for the second time in this match as the ball curls in to disturb the timber. India 2 down and leading by 70 runs.

Can Virat Kohli-led India pull a rabbit out of a hat? Will Dinesh Chandimal’s Sri Lanka peg back India to secure a win? Or will the rains or bad light spoilsport? These questions will be on everyone’s mind as the fifth and final day of the first India versus Sri Lanka Test at the Eden Gardens kicks off here on Monday.

While Rangana Herath helped the Islanders secure a 122-run lead, Indian openers KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan negated Sri Lanka’s first-inning lead as India ended Day 4 at 171/1, 49 runs ahead of the Lankan lead, as Dhawan scored 94 and Rahul remained unbeaten on 73 at stumps on Day 4.

While the Sri Lankan pacers ran riot in the first innings, Indian pacers – Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav – did their bit to share the spoils.

The second innings for India though played out differently than it did in the first as India made sure Sri Lanka don’t finish the penultimate day of the Test on a high.

The sea-saw encounter on Day 4, after the first three days giving Sri Lanka an advantage, Virat Kohli-led India have done well to keep the match alive, with a possibility of winning it to take 1-0 lead in the three-match Test series. If India push for
