All is not well within Janata Dal Secular in Karnataka as section of party workers are unhappy over issue of minority representation in the state cabinet. All JD(S) ministers in the state cabinet belong to Vokkalinga, Lingyat or SC/ST community.
Sources confirmed that a section within the party feels that a Muslim leader should be accommodated in the state cabinet. Muslims have traditionally voted for JD(S)in North and South Karnataka and have a sizable population at 13%
“Please wait and watch the developments. I can’t encroach upon the government. The CM is the head of the government and he will decide which community needs representation,” said JD(S) National President HD Devegowda earlier.
Many Muslim leaders have recently left JD(S) and joined Congress and other parties. Zameer Ahmed and Iqbal Ansari are two of such leaders.
Only prominent Muslim face within JD(S) is General Secreatary BM Farooq
Sources say that if Farooq too follows the path of other minority leaders, JDS’s image of being a secular party will take a hit.
Chief Minister Kumaraswamy will now take a final call on who should be included in the cabinet as expansion plan is being discussed.
