Sania Mirza and her Belgian partner Kirsten Flipkens got the better of British pair Naomi Broady and Heather Watson to enter the third round of women’s doubles at Wimbledon 2017.
The 13th seeds won 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 in one hour and 45 minutes and will next face third seeded pair of Martina Hingis, who is Sania’s former partner, and Chan Yung-jan of Chinese Taipei.
Sania won the Australian Open women’s doubles title in 2016 but has not won a Grand Slam title since then.
Later in the day, she combined with Croatian partner Ivan Dodig in mixed doubles to defeat Japanese pairing of Yusuke Watanuki and Makoto Ninomiya 7-6(5), 6-2.
The fourth seeds will now play Finnish-British combination of Henri Kontinen and Heather Watson in the third round.
Indo-Canadian combination of Rohan Bopanna and Gabriela Dabrowski beat French-Romanian pair of Fabrice Martin and Raluca Olaru 7-6 (2), 7-5 in the second round of mixed doubles. The 10th seeds, who won the mixed doubles title at French Open 2017, will take on Croatians Nikola Mektic and Ana Konjuh in the third round.
Indo-Japanese combo of Purav Raja and Eri Hozumi defeated American-Czech combine of James Cerretani and Renata Voracova 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 in mixed doubles first round.
They now face a tough match against Canadian-Slovenian pairing of Daniel Nestor and Andreja Klepac.
